On Guy Fawkes night Britain’s High Commission in Suva provided fire works in the form of a presentation based on “An Inconvenient Truth”.  This in the same week that the UK’s increased discriminatory Air Passenger Duty (APD) comes into effect. New Zealand PM John Key said “We are continuing to work with the UK government to voice strongly our concerns and to argue for reconsideration.” (Inside Tourism) (more…)

In Suva last night an expert panel discussed preparations for Copenhagen. Delegates heard how USA and China together account for 40% of global green house emissions. EU noted its support for a 2 degree cap on rise in temperatures from pre-industrial levels. But Pacific Islands, highly vulnerable to rising sea levels, want a 1.5 degree rise cap. Tuvalu urged that Copenhagen needs to build on Kyoto, not replace it, as a lot of trust as been built through the agreement penned in the 1990s in Japan. (more…)
